Hopelessness Versus OptimismJayanathi 2010

Giving up hope is sometimes very understandable.  Many of us face odds that seem unsurmountable.  But hopelessness is also easier than never giving up.  Hopelessness is predictable.  It is bad now, has always been bad, and will always be this way.  Why should you continue to strive?  Hopelessness also relieves you of responsibility.  If everything is somehow preordained to be a failure, you can shift your attention to those things that distract you - possessions and positions.  Optimism requires strength, courage, and patience.  If we cultivate this positive attitude, then even what might be called failures will contain at least a measure of success.  We will benefit and so will others.
